“Back to the Future Part II” (バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー PART 2), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1989, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA985

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1989 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Back to the Future Part II (バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー PART 2), a United States science-fiction adventure film directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Bob Gale, and produced by Steven Spielberg, starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and Thomas F. Wilson, with Elisabeth Shue and Jeffrey Weissman.

Film background
Released in 1989, Back to the Future Part II expands the franchise’s time-travel mythology as Marty McFly and Doc Brown jump forward to 2015 to prevent a disaster involving Marty’s family, only to trigger a far darker alternate timeline when Biff Tannen gains access to the DeLorean. The film’s layered structure—2015, 1985, the “bad” 1985, and the return to 1955—makes it one of the most ambitious mainstream sequels of its era, and a defining piece of late-1980s pop cinema.

Poster design
This Japanese B2 uses a dramatic, high-contrast “event film” composition: Marty (Fox) dominates the upper field against a starry black sky, lifting his visor and checking his watch—an instantly recognisable gesture of time pressure. Below, the DeLorean tears down the road leaving twin trails of fire, framed by electric light and smoke like a rocket launch. Bold vertical Japanese copy at left announces the release date 「12月9日」 and sells the film’s “beyond imagination” scale, while the large gradient title 「バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー PART 2」 anchors the bottom in classic late-’80s blockbuster typography. Clean, iconic, and extremely displayable.
