“Battles Without Honor and Humanity — Compilation” (仁義なき戦い 総集篇), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1980 (series 1973–74), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA1018
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1980 for 仁義なき戦い 総集篇 (Battles Without Honor and Humanity — Compilation), the feature-length digest edition summarising Kinji Fukasaku’s legendary yakuza film cycle. The compilation opened theatrically in Japan on 5 April 1980.
This poster is a true “cinema-era” statement piece: it explicitly frames the saga as 1945–1965 and sells the work as a definitive, hard-hitting overview of postwar violence and youth unrest—very much in the spirit of the original films’ impact and reputation.
Poster design
A stunning, minimalist exploitation-era composition: a lone silhouetted figure stands in reflective water holding a knife, beneath bold vertical copy, with the huge red title 仁義なき戦い (“Battles Without Honor and Humanity”) dominating the bottom. The sheet is clearly marked 総集篇 and 1945–1965, with the runtime printed as 上映時間/3時間30分—a stark, graphic design that feels closer to contemporary art than conventional yakuza advertising.
It is over 45 years old!
