“Battles Without Honor and Humanity: Proxy War”, Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1973, Very Rare, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P63

Sale price $625.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1973 for the first release of Battles Without Honor and Humanity: Proxy War (仁義なき戦い 代理戦争), the third instalment in Kinji Fukasaku’s era-defining yakuza saga—raw, documentary-edged, and relentlessly modern in its portrayal of postwar underworld power struggles. Part of the legendary Jingi naki tatakai cycle, the series reshaped the genre by stripping away romantic “ninkyō” myth and replacing it with brutal realism, shifting allegiances, and political cynicism.

Design
An exceptionally striking, high-contrast Japanese design: a tattooed yakuza figure rendered in stark monochrome against a deep black field, katana lowered, body turned in profile—an image that reads like a photographic silhouette and a manifesto at once. The title 「仁義なき戦い」 explodes in aggressive red brush script across the lower left, while the bold diagonal label 「代理戦争」 (Proxy War) slices through the composition like a stamped indictment. Minimal colour, maximum impact—one of the most powerful poster designs of the entire series.
