Authenticity
Important note: modern official reproductions of this design are widely available (often sold inexpensively in Ghibli/character shops). The example offered here is 100% an original theatrical printing from the 1992 first-release campaign (correct credits/paper stock/printer marks)—not a later shop reprint—so you can buy with confidence.

Film background
Released in Japan on 2 August 1986, Castle in the Sky follows Pazu and Sheeta as they are drawn into a race involving pirates, military forces, and a mysterious crystal linked to the legendary floating city of Laputa. The film was produced by Studio Ghibli for Tokuma Shoten and distributed theatrically by Toei. The principal Japanese voice cast includes Mayumi Tanaka, Keiko Yokozawa, Kotoe Hatsui, Minori Terada, Ichirō Nagai, and Fujio Tokita. With its unforgettable blend of adventure, flight, machinery, fantasy, and environmental themes, it remains one of Miyazaki’s most influential and enduring achievements.

Poster design
This is the classic and highly recognisable original 1986 theatrical design. It shows Pazu and Sheeta in mid-air above a dramatic industrial gorge, surrounded by flying machines, bridges, and vertical stone walls that immediately evoke the film’s atmosphere of danger and wonder. The composition is full of movement, with the two young protagonists suspended at the centre while the world of Laputa opens beneath them. The bright pink upper border, bold wooden title panel, and film stills along the bottom give the poster strong period character and make it one of the most appealing original Studio Ghibli theatrical sheets of the 1980s.
