“Catch Me If You Can” (キャッチ・ミー・イフ・ユー・キャン), Original Japanese Movie Poster 2002, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA366

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed for the Japanese theatrical release of Catch Me If You Can, Steven Spielberg’s stylish crime caper based on the life story of Frank W. Abagnale Jr. The film was produced in 2002 and opened theatrically in Japan on 21 March 2003 through UIP.

Film background
Directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Jeff Nathanson, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Frank Abagnale Jr. and Tom Hanks as FBI agent Carl Hanratty, with Christopher Walken in the key supporting role of Frank’s father. Set largely in the 1960s, it follows the young con artist as he successfully poses as a pilot, doctor, and lawyer while staying one step ahead of the authorities. The film runs 141 minutes and remains one of Spielberg’s most entertaining and elegant later-period works.

Poster design
This is the classic and highly recognisable Japanese release design, built around the film’s cat-and-mouse premise. DiCaprio and Hanks stand back-to-back in sharply contrasted costumes, separated and united by bold blue arrow graphics carrying the title. The clean white ground, minimal typography, and symmetrical composition give the poster a crisp, modern look that perfectly suits the film’s polished 1960s-style energy. It is an especially attractive country-of-origin design for collectors of Spielberg, DiCaprio, Hanks, and early-2000s studio cinema.
