“Dog Day Afternoon” (狼たちの午後), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1975, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA775

Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for the theatrical release of Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Sidney Lumet’s classic true-crime drama starring Al Pacino in one of his greatest performances. Inspired by a real-life Brooklyn bank robbery, the film becomes far more than a heist story—an intense, human, and darkly comic pressure-cooker about desperation, media spectacle, and the volatile relationship between police, public, and the people at the centre of a headline. With a superb supporting cast including John Cazale and Charles Durning, Dog Day Afternoon remains one of the defining American films of the 1970s.

Poster design

A brilliantly cinematic Japanese one-sheet that sells the film’s escalating scale and public theatre. The top half shows the street surrounded by police, crowds, and chaos—helicopters overhead—capturing the real-time media frenzy and siege atmosphere. Below, a close-up of Pacino dominates the frame, eyes flicking sideways in that unmistakable mix of fear and defiance, with a shotgun rising diagonally to add tension and urgency. The title 「狼たちの午後」 is rendered in bold red and orange across the centre—graphic, immediate, and incredibly frame-friendly—while the small English title DOG DAY AFTERNOON sits just above. A superb design for collectors of 1970s crime cinema and vintage Japanese typography.
