“Female Prisoner Scorpion 701: Grudge Song” (女囚さそり 701号怨み節), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1973, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P69

Sale price $300.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1973 for the first release of Female Prisoner Scorpion 701: Grudge Song (女囚さそり 701号怨み節), the fourth film in Toei’s legendary Female Prisoner Scorpion / Joshū Sasori series. Starring the incomparable Meiko Kaji, this sequel continues the franchise’s signature blend of exploitation cinema, graphic stylisation, and feminist rage—now pushed into a more operatic, revenge-fantasy register. It is one of the most recognisable titles in the cycle, closely associated with Kaji’s iconic screen persona and the series’ enduring cult reputation.

This poster is in excellent / close to near mint condition and we have taken this into account when pricing. We have the same poster in varying conditions, priced accordingly.

Design
A stunning, illustration-led composition credited on the poster to Tōru Shinohara (篠原とおる). Kaji’s Scorpion stands framed by vertical prison bars, her expression icy and controlled, hair flowing in a stylised sweep that turns the figure into a graphic emblem rather than a simple portrait. In a brilliantly surreal touch, miniature prison guards swarm around her as if she is a vengeful giant—while she grips a long rifle like a weapon of inevitability. The bold red border and jagged, pop-typographic title treatment—「女囚さそり 701号怨み節」—make this one of the most visually electric “manga-meets-cinema” designs of 1970s Toei poster art.
