This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 2000 Japanese release of Gone in 60 Seconds / 「60セカンズ」, Dominic Sena’s high-budget action thriller starring Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Giovanni Ribisi, and Robert Duvall.
Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the film is a loose remake of H. B. Halicki’s influential 1974 cult feature. This Japanese campaign poster combines intensely saturated portrait photography, metallic typography, and speed-blurred automotive imagery to capture the film’s mixture of glamour, danger, and contemporary car culture.
Film background
The film follows Randall “Memphis” Raines, a legendary automobile thief who has abandoned his criminal career and begun rebuilding his life.
Memphis is forced back into the underworld when his younger brother, Kip, becomes indebted to a ruthless crime lord after failing to complete a major vehicle theft operation.
To save Kip’s life, Memphis must reunite his former crew and undertake an apparently impossible assignment: stealing 50 highly valuable vehicles within a single night.
The target list includes Ferraris, Jaguars, Porsches, Mercedes-Benz models, and other luxury and performance cars. Each vehicle is assigned a woman’s name, with the most important being “Eleanor,” Memphis’s name for a customised 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
As police detectives close in and tensions develop within the crew, the operation culminates in a series of high-speed pursuits through Los Angeles.
The film was directed by Dominic Sena, from a screenplay by Scott Rosenberg, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Released shortly after Angelina Jolie received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted, the film strengthened her emergence as a major international star.
Gone in 60 Seconds became a substantial worldwide commercial success and remains closely associated with early-2000s performance-car culture, particularly the enduring popularity of Eleanor.
Poster design
This Japanese poster uses a dramatic palette of orange, amber, red, and black, creating the appearance of heat, speed, and nocturnal danger.
The upper portion is dominated by an enormous close-up portrait of Nicolas Cage as Memphis Raines. His face is rendered in intense orange light, with his guarded expression and direct gaze occupying much of the composition.
Behind him at upper left appears Angelina Jolie as Sara “Sway” Wayland, shown with platinum-blonde hair and a dark sleeveless top. Her portrait is similarly illuminated in warm orange tones, visually connecting the two former partners.
At the centre, four members of the car-theft crew emerge from a bright, mist-filled horizon. Their dark silhouettes and the headlights behind them create the appearance of a team assembling for the night’s operation.
The lower section features a red sports car racing across the image, heavily blurred by horizontal streaks of red, green, and white light. This photographic motion effect gives the poster a powerful sense of acceleration and provides a vivid visual foundation beneath the title.
The large vertical white tagline at right reads:
「男は60秒で車を盗み、女は60秒でハートを盗む。」
Translated:
“A man steals a car in 60 seconds; a woman steals a heart in 60 seconds.”
The smaller red vertical text at left reads:
「フェラーリ、ジャガー、ポルシェ……24時間で50台の不可能に挑む、プロ集団。」
Translated:
“Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche… A team of professionals takes on the impossible challenge of stealing 50 cars in 24 hours.”
The white text above the title announces:
「ニコラス・ケイジ最新作」
Translated:
“The latest film starring Nicolas Cage.”
The enormous Japanese title:
「60セカンズ」
appears in metallic silver lettering across the centre, set against a deep red, speed-blurred background.
Immediately above it appears the English title:
“GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS”
The orange text below the title highlights:
「ジェリー・ブラッカイマー製作」
“Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.”
It also promotes:
「〈本年度アカデミー助演女優賞受賞〉アンジェリーナ・ジョリー」
Translated:
“This year’s Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actress, Angelina Jolie.”
The result is an archetypal early-2000s Japanese action poster, combining star imagery, metallic graphic design, luxury automobiles, and saturated cinematic colour.
Condition
Near Mint condition. An exceptionally well-preserved example, retaining vivid orange and red colour, deep black tones, clean borders, sharp photographic detail, and excellent overall display impact.
There are only extremely minor signs of age or handling consistent with an original Japanese theatrical poster from this period. It would be very difficult to improve upon this example.
