This is an original Japanese poster from the first release of "Floating Weeds" (浮草, Ukigusa) in 1959.
This poster is ultra rare and directed by one of Japan`s most celebrated directors - Yasujirō Ozu.
This is a 1959 remake of Ozu’s own silent film "A Story of Floating Weeds" (1934). The film stars Ganjiro Nakamura, Machiko Kyo, Ayako Wakao, and Hiroshi Kawaguchi, among others.
"Floating Weeds" is a visually stunning drama that follows an aging traveling actor who revisits a small seaside town where he has an old flame and an estranged son who believes him to be his uncle. The film explores themes of family, duty, and impermanence, characteristic of Ozu’s poignant storytelling.
This poster highlights the film's rich colors (as it was shot in color by cinematographer Kazuo Miyagawa) and features its lead actors prominently. The striking Japanese calligraphy for the title adds to its artistic appeal.
