“Corruption” (狂ったメス), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1968, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O69

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed for the first theatrical release of Corruption (狂ったメス) in Japan, the notorious 1968 British psycho-horror directed by Robert Hartford-Davis and starring Peter Cushing with Sue Lloyd. Issued by Columbia for cinemas, it captures the film’s shocking, Swinging-London blend of surgical terror and giallo-style violence that has since earned a strong cult reputation.

About the release

Cushing plays eminent surgeon John Rowan, whose obsession with restoring his model fiancée’s beauty drives him to murder for fresh tissue—sending London into a panic as the killings escalate. Released domestically as 狂ったメス (“Mad Scalpel”), the picture stood out in Japan for its graphic set-pieces and transgressive tone, distinct from Cushing’s Hammer roles.

Poster design

A sensational exploitation collage: a gloved hand presses a scalpel to a blonde woman’s throat in an oversized close-up, echoed by her full-frame scream; a brutal struggle vignette plays at the bottom; and a black female silhouette darts across the left. Bold yellow hype copy runs vertically, including a tongue-in-cheek “ladies, attend with a companion” warning. The blood-drip brush title 狂ったメス dominates in red, with the English word “CORRUPTION” keyed in blue—pure late-1960s shock advertising.

Why collectors prize this poster

  • Country-of-origin Japanese B2 for Peter Cushing’s most ferocious late-’60s shocker.

  • Striking scalpel-to-throat artwork and infamous “warning” copy—an iconic exploitation layout.

  • Scarce outside Japan; a standout Cushing piece beyond his Hammer filmography.

  • Columbia Japan issue from the high point of post-war genre advertising.
