“Monster Panic” (モンスター・パニック / Humanoids from the Deep), Ultra‑Rare Original Japanese B1 Movie Poster 1981, B1 Size (c. 72 × 103 cm)
This is an original Japanese B1 theatrical poster for Humanoids from the Deep (1980), the infamous New World Pictures sea‑monster shocker produced by Roger Corman and directed by Barbara Peeters (with additional work by Jimmy T. Murakami). Released in Japan under the title “Monster Panic” (モンスター・パニック), the film blends creature‑feature thrills with exploitation horror and has since developed a strong cult following among fans of 1980s B‑movie horror.
Artwork by Bob Larkin
The poster features menacing original art by celebrated American illustrator Bob Larkin, known for his dynamic work on Marvel magazine covers and numerous movie posters. Larkin’s design shows a pack of dripping, bioluminescent sea mutants emerging from a storm‑tossed surf, glowing red eyes locked on the viewer as they wade toward shore. The lower insert panel juxtaposes this painted menace with bloody stills of the film’s human victims, emphasising the movie’s blend of monster‑mayhem and grindhouse shock. The enormous red Japanese title 「モンスター・パニック」 crashes across the foaming waves at the bottom, making this one of the most striking “creature from the sea” images of the era.
Rarity
Japanese B1 posters for Monster Panic are extremely hard to find, printed in much smaller quantities than US one‑sheets and only for the local run. This is the first time we have been able to offer this design in our gallery.
