“Kafka” (迷宮の悪夢), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1992 (film 1991), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA1014
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1992 for the first Japanese release of Kafka (released in Japan as 迷宮の悪夢), directed by Steven Soderbergh.
A stylish, noir-inflected psychological mystery loosely inspired by the life and atmosphere of Franz Kafka, the film blends bureaucratic dread, conspiracy, and dream logic—shot largely in stark black-and-white with striking bursts of colour. Starring Jeremy Irons as Kafka, it has become a cult favourite for its expressionist mood, shadowy Prague-like streetscapes, and unmistakably “Kafkaesque” paranoia.
Poster design
A superb, gallery-ready Japanese design: a rain-slicked night street scene recedes into darkness while a trench-coated figure looms at right, framed by stark vertical copy. The massive red KAFKA title dominates the bottom, with the Japanese title 迷宮の悪夢 beneath—clean, modern, and intensely cinematic. The overall composition perfectly mirrors the film’s atmosphere of shadow, surveillance, and creeping unreality.
It is over 33 years old!
