Sale price $425.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1962 for the Japanese release of L’amour à vingt ans (Love at Twenty), released in Japan as 二十歳の恋 (Hatachi no Koi). Produced by Pierre Roustang, this French-produced anthology film is composed of five separate segments, each exploring a different perspective on youth and love across five countries—directed by major filmmakers from those nations.

Film background
Released in 1962, Love at Twenty is a fascinating cross-cultural time capsule of early-1960s cinema, uniting international auteurs under a single theme. The film’s five segments are:

  • Paris (France) — directed by François Truffaut, featuring Jean-Pierre Léaud as Antoine Doinel in the celebrated episode “Antoine et Colette”

  • Rome (Italy) — directed by Renzo Rossellini

  • Tokyo (Japan) — directed by Shintarō Ishihara, with music by Tōru Takemitsu

  • Munich (Germany) — directed by Marcel Ophüls

  • Warsaw (Poland) — directed by Andrzej Wajda

The project is further unified by the still photography of Henri Cartier-Bresson and a score credited to Georges Delerue, giving the film an unusually prestigious artistic pedigree for an anthology feature.

Poster design
A superb example of early-1960s Japanese graphic restraint: huge acid-green French typography (“l’amour à 20 ans”) dominates the upper field, while a delicate monochrome illustration of a young couple in embrace provides an intimate emotional centre. The right-hand column functions almost like a programme note—listing each country/segment and its director in clean Japanese type, reinforcing the film’s international “five cities” structure. The bold Japanese title 二十歳の恋 anchors the bottom in deep indigo, and the CinemaScope (シネマスコープ) credit adds period authenticity. Minimal, modern, and highly displayable—an exceptional crossover piece for collectors of French New Wave, European art cinema, and Japanese design posters.
