“Le Samouraï” (サムライ 4Kレストア), Original Japanese 4K Restoration Re-Release Movie Poster 2026, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) Q135

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster issued in 2026 for the Japanese 4K restoration re-release of Le Samouraï, Jean-Pierre Melville’s immortal crime classic starring Alain Delon, with Cathy Rosier, Nathalie Delon, and François Périer. The official Japanese materials and Bunkamura’s listing identify the film as a 1967 France–Italy production running 105 minutes, newly returned to Japanese cinemas in restored form.

Film background

Few crime films have retained the same aura as Le Samouraï. In Japan’s official 4K-restoration notes, Delon’s Jef Costello is presented as the archetypal solitary hitman, a figure defined by silence, ritual, and absolute control. The same materials describe the film as a high point of Melville’s severe visual style, supported by Henri Decaë’s cool cinematography and François de Roubaix’s jazz-inflected score. The restoration campaign also explicitly frames the film as a touchstone for later directors including Martin Scorsese, Jim Jarmusch, John Woo, Johnny To, and others.

Poster design

This is a superb and highly contemporary re-release design. Rather than reusing the more graphic first-release Japanese artwork, the composition centres on a large, cropped close-up of Alain Delon in fedora and trench coat, his face emerging from a soft-focus Paris street background. The effect is elegant, cold, and unmistakably Melvillean. The small bird motif at lower left, the restrained typography, and the 4K RESTORED marking at lower right give the poster a refined modern-cinema presentation while still preserving the film’s original aura of loneliness and fatalism.

What makes this poster especially effective is its restraint. It avoids montage and spectacle entirely, reducing the image to Delon’s face, the hat brim, and the atmosphere of urban isolation. As a display piece, it is clean, severe, and exceptionally stylish.

Condition

Near Mint. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale. The poster presents beautifully overall, with fresh colour, clean paper, and outstanding display appeal. There is only the lightest evidence of handling and storage, and the reverse is notably clean. Overall, this is a collector-grade example.

It is an authentic 2026 Japanese 4K restoration re-release issue, and not a reproduction or decorative reprint.
