“Marilyn” (マリリン・モンローの世界), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1963, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O741
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1963 for the first Japanese release of Marilyn (マリリン・モンローの世界), a documentary portrait of Marilyn Monroe released by 20th Century Fox and narrated by Rock Hudson.
Film background
Released in 1963, Marilyn is a feature-length documentary built around Monroe’s screen image and public mythology at the height of her posthumous cultural impact. Framed for audiences as both a celebration and a retrospective, it draws on film material and star iconography to present a studio-era portrait of Monroe as an international symbol of glamour and modern celebrity.
Poster design
A superb piece of early-1960s Japanese graphic restraint: Monroe appears alone on a deep black field, posed like a stage performer in a long pink gown and gloves, spotlighted with a soft, mist-like blue at her feet. The typography is equally confident—large, blocky katakana title 「マリリン・モンローの世界」 across the top, a small Rock Hudson credit portrait at upper right, and the striking turquoise marilyn logotype anchoring the bottom edge. Minimal imagery, maximum presence—an elegant, gallery-like poster that feels closer to modern design than conventional film advertising of the period.
