Sale price $200.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1979 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Moonraker (007/ムーンレイカー), directed by Lewis Gilbert and released in Japan under the United Artists banner. The film is the eleventh entry in the official James Bond series, sending Roger Moore’s 007 from Venice and Rio de Janeiro all the way into outer space to stop a megalomaniac’s plan to wipe out humanity.

Film background
After the space shuttle Moonraker is mysteriously hijacked, MI6 assigns Bond to investigate industrialist Hugo Drax, whose aerospace empire built the craft. The trail leads Bond across Europe and South America, where he teams up with CIA agent Dr. Holly Goodhead and faces the returning steel-toothed henchman Jaws. Drax’s true scheme—launching a fleet of shuttles to a hidden space station, from which he plans to poison Earth and repopulate it with a hand-picked “master race”—forces Bond into a climactic battle in orbit. Mixing classic spy thrills with then-cutting-edge space-opera spectacle, Moonraker became one of the biggest box-office hits in the franchise.

Poster design
The Japanese B2 showcases the dynamic painted artwork by Daniel Goozee in a tall, action-packed layout. Bond stands front and centre in a silver space suit, laser gun drawn, framed by the gigantic wheel of Drax’s space station and a star-filled void. Around him: shuttles, astronauts, and laser battles sell the film’s “Bond in space” hook at a glance—while bold red vertical copy trumpets this as “史上最大の娯楽巨編!” (“the greatest entertainment epic in history!”). The thick red katakana title 「ムーンレイカー」 anchors the lower portion with unmistakable late-1970s impact.

A particularly important feature of this example is the large original cinema advertising snipe attached at the bottom. This red-and-white strip reads 「同時上映 戦国自衛隊」 (“Double feature: Sengoku Jieitai / G.I. Samurai”), with the screening dates 6/3–6/16, plus special admission pricing (Adults ¥800 / Students ¥600 / Children ¥400). It also names the cinema as 「京成名画座」 (Keisei Meiga-za) and gives the location 「京成青砥駅構内」 (inside Keisei Aoto Station) with the printed telephone number. In other words: this is a real, theatre-used display copy, with period local programming/provenance still intact.
