This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster issued in 1987 for Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (風の谷のナウシカ), published as a later MOVIC / Tokuma Shoten poster rather than a 1984 first-release theatrical campaign sheet. It uses a beautiful soft, painterly image of Nausicaä standing amid the Ohmu world, and is one of the most elegant post-release Japanese paper items for the title—far quieter and more artful than the more familiar cinema posters.

Film background
Originally released in Japan on 11 March 1984, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind was written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, produced by Isao Takahata, with music by Joe Hisaishi. Although made before Studio Ghibli was formally established, it is rightly treated as one of the foundational works in the wider Ghibli story, and remains one of the most important Japanese animated features ever made. Its vision of ecological collapse, poisoned landscapes, and the possibility of compassion between humanity and nature gave it an emotional and imaginative scale that still feels extraordinary today.

Poster design
A truly beautiful design built around a delicate watercolour-style rendering of Nausicaä standing atop the shell-like terrain of the toxic world, surrounded by the bulbous organic forms of the Ohmu environment. The palette is unusually subdued—dusty ochres, soft greys, pale blues—and that restraint gives the poster a very different mood from the bolder, more overtly cinematic theatrical designs. It feels contemplative, almost like an art print, with Nausicaä presented not as an action heroine but as a solitary figure of intelligence, calm, and resolve. For collectors, that is exactly what makes this 1987 MOVIC / Tokuma Shoten issue so appealing: it is a highly displayable later paper item that foregrounds the film’s atmosphere and illustration rather than its promotional urgency.
