“Nights of Cabiria” (カビリアの夜), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1957, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA1026

Sale price $350.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster from the first-release campaign for Federico Fellini’s Nights of Cabiria (Le notti di Cabiria, 1957), starring Giulietta Masina in one of world cinema’s most beloved performances. The film received major international acclaim—Masina won Best Actress at the 1957 Cannes Film Festival, and the film went on to win the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Design
A powerful, emotional Japan-market design centred on an intimate, enlarged portrait of Masina—hands clasped, eyes shimmering—set against a quiet lakeside landscape. Below, small figures (a man walking away; Cabiria collapsed in despair) scale the drama into a single heartbreaking moment, while the oversized peach/orange title 「カビリアの夜」 sweeps across the lower field in bold, period typography. At the top, the copy highlights the film’s festival prestige (including Cannes recognition), making this a superb example of late-’50s imported-arthouse poster design for the Japanese market. Japan’s first release is recorded as 9 November 1957, with release information listed as イタリフィルム=NCC.
