This is an original, officially licensed Japanese B2 Banpresto character poster from 1999, featuring a lively ensemble of early Pocket Monsters / Pokémon favourites. The lower-left corner carries BANPRESTO branding, LOT NO.990305, and 非売品 (not for sale). The “No.5” marking identifies this design within the numbered poster series. This is a character merchandise poster rather than a theatrical release advertisement.
Franchise background
By 1999, Pokémon had expanded from its original Game Boy adventures into an international phenomenon encompassing television, cinema and licensed merchandise. This design celebrates the characters central to that early success, bringing together Satoshi (Ash), Pikachu and a colourful selection of Pokémon familiar from the original anime.
Poster design
A wonderfully energetic composition set against a bright blue sky filled with soft white clouds and jagged yellow lightning. A large, smiling Pikachu leaps into the foreground, with Ash holding a Poké Ball immediately behind him. Charizard towers above them, its outstretched wings framing the upper half of the sheet.
Mewtwo and Mew float overhead, while Vulpix, Squirtle, Togepi and Bulbasaur fill the surrounding space. The overlapping figures create a strong sense of movement, with Pikachu’s yellow, Charizard’s orange and the cool blue background giving the artwork particularly striking colour contrasts.
With the Pokémon logo and Banpresto markings kept discreetly in the corners, the illustration occupies almost the entire sheet—a cheerful, highly displayable design celebrating the franchise’s early years.
