This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster produced for the first Japanese cinema release of Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach (ポリスアカデミー5／マイアミ特別勤務), the fifth instalment in the hugely popular Police Academy comedy series. Produced in 1988, the film opened theatrically in Japan on 2 July 1988, distributed domestically by Warner Bros.
Directed by Alan Myerson, the film takes the familiar Police Academy ensemble to Miami, where Commandant Lassard is due to receive an award before becoming accidentally entangled with a group of jewel thieves. The cast includes Bubba Smith, David Graf, Michael Winslow, George Gaynes, G. W. Bailey, Leslie Easterbrook, Marion Ramsey, Matt McCoy and Janet Jones.
Poster design
A wonderfully exuberant late-1980s Japanese comedy design, featuring the entire Police Academy ensemble precariously clinging to a rope above an open-mouthed alligator. Each character is given their own visual gag—from weapons and megaphones to a fishbowl, water pistol and flying food—creating the kind of densely packed, chaotic composition perfectly suited to the series.
The clean white background gives the colourful illustrated cast enormous impact, while the red, white and blue border and police-badge motifs reinforce the American setting. Across the top, the Japanese advertising enthusiastically announces the gang’s arrival in Miami Beach and celebrates the series’ continuing success in Japan. The enormous red-and-yellow ポリスアカデミー5 title dominates the lower section, with マイアミ特別勤務 — “Special Assignment: Miami” beneath it.

Condition
Excellent. The poster retains superb colour saturation, with the bright whites, vivid reds, blues and detailed character artwork remaining exceptionally fresh. There are only very minor signs of age and handling, with no significant condition issues affecting the central artwork or typography. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale.
