“Saint Seiya: Warriors of the Final Holy Battle” (聖闘士星矢 最終聖戦の戦士たち), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1989, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA132

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1989 for the first theatrical release of Saint Seiya: Warriors of the Final Holy Battle, the fourth film in the original Saint Seiya series. Released as part of the Toei Manga Matsuri programme, the film was directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi and featured the core voice cast of the series, including Tōru Furuya, Hirotaka Suzuoki, Ryō Horikawa, Hideyuki Hori, and Keiko Han. It is a superb piece of late-1980s anime poster art, with exactly the kind of dramatic fantasy-sci-fi imagery collectors want from vintage Toei releases.

Film background
Released in 1989, Warriors of the Final Holy Battle brings together several strands of the Saint Seiya mythos in a story centred on the resurrection of Lucifer, awakened through the lingering forces of earlier antagonists including Eris, Abel, and Poseidon. His goal is to destroy Athena / Saori Kido and plunge the world into darkness, forcing the Bronze Saints into one more apocalyptic battle. As the fourth theatrical entry in the classic series, the film is especially notable for pushing the franchise toward a more overtly grand, mythic, and even quasi-Christian visual language while retaining the emotional and heroic structure that made the original Saint Seiya so beloved.

Poster design
This Japanese poster is fantastic. At the centre stands Saori Kido / Athena with staff in hand, flanked by the dark, imposing figure of Lucifer, while the Bronze Saints gather below in battle-ready formation. The background is divided into storm-dark and radiant celestial zones, with statues, lightning, and a winged white horse adding a sense of mythic scale. The huge red-and-blue title 聖闘士星矢 最終聖戦の戦士たち gives the sheet tremendous visual impact, and the whole composition has the rich, high-drama feel of late-1980s Toei fantasy anime at its peak. It is bold, colourful, and extremely displayable.
