“Science Ninja Team Gatchaman” (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン), Original Release Japanese Poster 1973, Speed Poster Size (c. 26 × 75 cm) N21

This is an original Japanese “speed”-size theatrical poster produced in 1973 for Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン), the seminal Shōwa-era anime action series created by Tatsuo Yoshida (吉田竜夫) and produced by Tatsunoko Production. One of the most influential Japanese superhero / sci-fi properties of the 1970s, Gatchaman follows the elite Science Ninja Team as they defend Earth using advanced tech, “science ninpō,” and the iconic finishing attack Science Ninja Art: Firebird (科学忍法・火の鳥).

Design
Speed posters were printed in a tall, narrow format for display in theatre lobbies, corridors, and ticket areas, and far fewer were produced than standard B2 sheets—making genuine survivors particularly desirable today. This design is a superb example of early-’70s Japanese graphic impact: an icy powder-blue field is dominated by gigantic stacked orange ガッチャマン typography, paired with bold pink 科学忍者隊 vertical lettering. The lower section features dynamic character artwork in full heroic pose, with period vertical copy at right celebrating Gatchaman’s aerial heroics and the Firebird technique. With the Toho (東宝) mark and original theatrical print details, it’s a striking, highly displayable piece of 1970s Japanese anime / tokusatsu-adjacent cinema ephemera.
