This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1964 for the first release of The Beast Shall Die.
This almost 5′ tall STB poster features fantastic artwork. The tatekan STB format had much lower print numbers compared to regular Japanese B2s. They are very rare, especially for more popular film titles, and are highly sought after by collectors today.
Japanese designers created some of the most distinctive film posters of the 1960s. This piece is a good example of their creative flair.
Kunihiko Date (Hiroshi Fujioka), a literature professor turned vigilante, seeks revenge against the banking and business conglomerate responsible for his father's suicide following their hostile takeover of his steel company. His meticulous plan involves murdering various employees and family members as he moves closer to his ultimate target, Chairman Yajima (Hosei Komatsu), all while evading his old friend and college rival, Detective Shoda (Toshio Kurosawa).
Directed by Eizo Sugawa, The Beast Shall Die's standalone sequel is a dark and stylish action film filled with bloody violence and moral ambiguity. While it doesn’t quite reach the same heights as its predecessor, it remains an engaging, unpredictable thriller with perfect pacing that keeps viewers on edge throughout.
