“The Godfather Part III”, Original Japanese Movie Poster 1990, First Theatrical Release, B2 Size (c. 51.5 × 72.8 cm) S116

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical release poster, issued for the film’s first release in Japan for Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather Part III, released in Japan as ゴッドファーザー PART III, starring Al Pacino. Printed in the standard B2 cinema-display format — the classic size used for Japanese theatrical advertising — this is an elegant and highly collectible original poster from the concluding chapter of one of cinema’s most celebrated trilogies.

The design has tremendous presence and a notably sombre, dignified tone. A large, commanding portrait of Al Pacino as Michael Corleone dominates the composition, his face half in shadow and his hands pressed together in a gesture that suggests calculation, regret, and spiritual burden. The lower right inset, glowing with warm interior light, shows Michael seated alone in a grand doorway, reinforcing the film’s atmosphere of isolation, power, and reckoning. The central title block — ゴッドファーザー PART III — is paired with the series’ iconic puppet-master hand motif, immediately tying the image back to the visual identity of the earlier films.

The Japanese copy adds further drama and gravitas to the piece. Along the right side, the bold vertical text proclaims: 「15年の歳月をかけた― 巨匠フランシス・コッポラの集大成!!」 — effectively positioning the film as the culmination of fifteen years of Coppola’s grand saga. Beside the portrait, another vertical line reads: 「いかなる権力をもってしても運命の流れには逆らえない―」, underscoring the tragic fatalism at the heart of Michael Corleone’s story. Altogether, it is a striking and sophisticated Japanese design for a major Hollywood prestige release.

The B2 format remains one of the most appealing ways to collect original Japanese film posters: large enough to make a strong visual impact, yet faithful to the standard theatrical format used across Japanese cinemas. For an internationally important title such as The Godfather Part III, original Japanese posters are increasingly appreciated for their distinctive typography, elegant layout, and far scarcer survival rate than many later commercial posters.

Condition

Offered here in excellent condition, with only light signs of age and handling consistent with an original theatrical poster. It presents very well overall, with strong colour, an attractive clean appearance, and no major distracting flaws visible in the photographs.

A highly atmospheric and very displayable first-release Japanese B2 for the final chapter of The Godfather trilogy — an excellent piece for collectors of Francis Ford Coppola, Al Pacino, or landmark 1990s cinema.
