"The Hills Have Eyes" (サランドラ), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1984, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O840

Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1984 for the first Japanese cinema release of Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes (released in Japan as サランドラ), distributed domestically by Toho-Towa (東宝東和). The first Japanese release date is widely recorded as 25 August 1984.

Directed by Wes Craven, the film is a foundational late-1970s horror classic: a family road trip strands in the desert near a former test-site—and becomes prey to a brutal, isolated clan living in the surrounding hills. Its reputation grew internationally over time, including recognition at Sitges 1977, where it received the Critics’ Award.

Poster design
A sensational, high-impact Japanese design built around a painted image of a swimmer erupting from dark water in panic—an immediate “Jaws-era” shock visual—paired with the bold English title TINTORERA! at top and the Japanese tagline 「また、あいつが現われた!」 (“He’s appeared again!”). The huge yellow Japanese title サランドラ anchors the bottom. This title is also infamous in Japan for its notoriously exaggerated marketing campaign, which makes surviving Japanese paper especially collectible.

It is over 41 years old!
