The Lady Vanishes (1938) is a British mystery thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock, about an English tourist who investigates the mysterious disappearance of an elderly woman on a train. The film was a major success, boosting Hitchcock's career and leading to his move to Hollywood. It has since been recognized as one of Hitchcock's best British films, ranking 35th on the British Film Institute's list of top British films and 31st in a 2017 Time Out poll.
