“The Terminator” / 「ターミネーター」(B254) & “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” / 「ターミネーター2」(B107), Set of Two Original Japanese Movie Posters 1985–1991, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm Each)
This listing is for a matching set of two original Japanese B2 theatrical posters for James Cameron’s landmark science-fiction films:
The Terminator / 「ターミネーター」 — Japanese theatrical release, 1985 (B254)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day / 「ターミネーター2」 — Japanese theatrical release, 1991 (B107)
Together, the two posters chart the transformation of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator from the relentless machine antagonist of the original film into the protective, instantly recognisable hero of its sequel.
Both posters are original period Japanese cinema posters, not later reproductions or commercial reprints.
Film background
In The Terminator, a seemingly unstoppable cyborg assassin is sent from the year 2029 to Los Angeles in 1984. Its mission is to kill Sarah Connor, whose future son will lead humanity’s resistance against the artificial-intelligence defence network Skynet. A human soldier, Kyle Reese, is sent back through time to protect her.
Directed by James Cameron and written by Cameron with Gale Anne Hurd, the film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Michael Biehn. Made on a relatively modest budget, it became an international success and established one of cinema’s most enduring science-fiction franchises.
In Terminator 2: Judgment Day, a more advanced liquid-metal Terminator, the T-1000, is sent back to kill the young John Connor. A reprogrammed T-800 is sent to protect him, while Sarah Connor attempts to prevent the future nuclear catastrophe known as Judgment Day.
Directed by James Cameron and written by Cameron with William Wisher, the sequel stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick, and Joe Morton. It became one of the defining action films of the 1990s, celebrated for its groundbreaking visual effects, large-scale action sequences, and emotional depth.
The Terminator poster design
The first poster presents Arnold Schwarzenegger in one of the most famous images of his career: dressed in a black leather jacket, wearing dark sunglasses, and holding a pistol and a laser-sighted weapon.
The red-and-black background incorporates computer graphics, targeting imagery, data readouts, and diagonal geometric lines, evoking the machine vision and cold technological menace of the Terminator.
The large headline across the top reads:
「冷酷!非情!残虐!史上最強〈悪〉のヒーロー!!」
“Cold! Ruthless! Brutal! The strongest evil hero in history!”
Schwarzenegger’s name appears prominently in red above the large metallic Japanese title:
「ターミネーター」
A small action image at the bottom shows Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese fleeing through a tunnel, adding narrative movement beneath the dominant portrait of the Terminator.
Terminator 2 poster design
The second poster uses an exceptionally clean and futuristic design dominated by the monumental metallic “T2” logo.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s face appears between the two characters, with one eye glowing red, creating a direct visual connection between the human exterior of the T-800 and the machine beneath.
Across the top, Schwarzenegger’s name is presented in large, slender white lettering:
“ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER”
The central Japanese text reads:
「あれから10年後の1994・ロス―
運命を背負ったタイム・トラベラー達に
審判の日は、近づいてくる!」
“Ten years later, in Los Angeles, 1994—the Day of Judgment draws nearer for the time travellers burdened by destiny!”
The lower section is anchored by the Japanese title:
「ターミネーター2」
with the numeral 2 rendered in vivid red. The restrained black background, metallic typography, and glowing cybernetic eye give the poster a particularly strong and sophisticated display presence.
