All About My Mother (Spanish title: Todo sobre mi madre) is writer-director Pedro Almodóvar’s 1999 melodrama starring Cecilia Roth, Marisa Paredes, Penélope Cruz, Candela Peña, and Antonia San Juan. Premiering at Cannes—where it won Best Director—the film went on to earn the 2000 Academy Award®, Golden Globe, and BAFTA for Best Foreign Language Film. Blending Almodóvar’s bold colour palette with heartfelt performances, the story follows Argentine nurse Manuela’s journey from Madrid back to Barcelona after the tragic death of her teenage son. There she reunites with old friends—an aging stage diva, a pregnant nun, a trans woman—and discovers new facets of love, identity, and chosen family. Acclaimed for its compassion toward women on society’s margins, the film is widely regarded as one of Almodóvar’s masterpieces.
