Young and Innocent (released in the U.S. as The Girl Was Young) is a 1937 British crime thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring Nova Pilbeam and Derrick De Marney. Based on Josephine Tey's 1936 novel A Shilling for Candles, the film follows a young man falsely accused of murder, who seeks help from a woman willing to risk her own safety to clear his name. One of the film's standout features is a cleverly staged crane shot near the end, devised by Hitchcock, which reveals the true murderer.
