Robert De Niro — Original Japanese Movie Posters

Robert De Niro (born 1943) is one of the most celebrated actors in the history of American cinema, renowned for his extraordinary versatility, meticulous approach to characterisation and defining performances across more than five decades.

This collection brings together original Japanese theatrical movie posters featuring Robert De Niro, including rare first-release posters, distinctive Japanese campaign designs and collectible vintage examples from some of the most important films of modern cinema.

De Niro’s career is closely associated with his celebrated collaborations with director Martin Scorsese, beginning with Mean Streets (1973) and continuing through landmark films including Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), The King of Comedy (1982), Goodfellas (1990), Casino (1995) and The Irishman (2019).

His performance as the young Vito Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather Part II (1974) earned him his first Academy Award, while his portrayal of boxer Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull (1980) secured his second. These performances helped establish De Niro as one of the defining screen actors of his generation.

Other notable films include The Deer Hunter (1978), Once Upon a Time in America (1984), The Untouchables (1987), Midnight Run (1988), Cape Fear (1991), Heat (1995), Jackie Brown (1997) and Ronin (1998).

Original Japanese movie posters for De Niro’s films are particularly appealing to collectors, often featuring distinctive Japanese typography, alternative photographic compositions and theatrical artwork that differs from the American and European release campaigns.

The Japanese posters for films such as Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, The Untouchables, Goodfellas and Heat are especially interesting examples of the country’s distinctive approach to film advertising.

Our collection spans original Japanese B2 theatrical posters and other collectible formats, representing De Niro’s remarkable career from his early breakthrough performances through to his later work.

Many original Japanese first-release posters from the 1970s and 1980s are increasingly difficult to acquire, particularly in well-preserved condition. These surviving examples are valued not only for their association with landmark films but also as historical artefacts of Japanese cinema exhibition and graphic design.

At Japan Poster Shop, we specialise exclusively in authentic original Japanese posters, carefully sourced within Japan, individually catalogued and photographed. Every poster includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

Our collection is available to collectors worldwide, with DHL Express shipping from Tokyo. Private viewings can also be arranged at our Shibuya poster gallery by appointment.
