This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster produced for the first Japanese theatrical release of Woody Allen’s comedy Hollywood Ending (released in Japan as さよなら、さよならハリウッド). This title opened theatrically in Japan on 23 April 2005.
Directed by Woody Allen (who also stars as the hapless director Val Waxman), the film is a sharp, self-mocking satire of filmmaking, ego, and romantic chaos—famously selected as the official opening film of the 2002 Cannes Film Festival.
Poster design
A wonderfully characterful, illustrated Japanese design topped with “CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2002 OFFICIAL OPENING FILM”, featuring a central cartoon portrait of Val surrounded by the film’s key figures—each labelled in English (manager, producer, studio head, first wife, girlfriend, son, etc.). The vertical Japanese copy at left highlights Woody Allen’s return (“after three years”), while the right-side copy teases that this “offbeat genius director” brings romance, laughter, and secrets. The bold Japanese title さよなら、さよならハリウッド anchors the lower section with a playful “HOLLYWOOD ENDING” motif—an excellent, frame-ready piece.
