Original Japanese Romance & Romantic Drama Movie Posters

Explore Japan Poster Shop’s extensive collection of original Japanese romance and romantic drama movie posters, featuring rare and highly collectible theatrical artwork from some of the most celebrated love stories in cinema history.

From the timeless elegance of classic Hollywood romance to the emotional depth of Japanese romantic dramas, European art-house cinema and contemporary international filmmaking, this collection celebrates the enduring place of love, longing and human relationships in cinematic storytelling.

Our collection encompasses original Japanese theatrical posters for celebrated romantic films such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), Roman Holiday (1953), Casablanca (1942), Love Story (1970), Titanic (1997) and In the Mood for Love (2000), alongside acclaimed Japanese productions and internationally recognised romantic dramas.

Of particular significance are Japanese theatrical posters for the films of Yasujirō Ozu, Mikio Naruse, Wong Kar-wai, François Truffaut and other influential filmmakers whose work explores the complexities of love, relationships, marriage and emotional connection. Japanese poster campaigns for these films frequently feature distinctive photographic compositions, refined typography and artwork that differs considerably from their international counterparts.

The visual history of romantic cinema is especially rich in Japan, where original theatrical posters often combine elegant portrait photography, expressive illustration, carefully balanced compositions and distinctive Japanese typography. Many early examples have become increasingly sought after by collectors for their exceptional design, historical significance and rarity.

Our extensive holdings include original Japanese B2 and B1 theatrical posters, rare first-release examples, advance promotional designs, vintage cinema advertising and scarce international film variants. From classic Hollywood and European masterpieces to Japanese romantic dramas and contemporary love stories, these posters represent an important chapter in the history of cinema and graphic design.

Every poster offered by Japan Poster Shop is an authentic original, carefully sourced in Japan and individually catalogued. We do not sell reproductions. All posters are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, with worldwide DHL Express shipping available from our gallery in Tokyo.
