"Onna no Doba" (1966) – Original Japanese STB Poster
女の賭場 | Toei Studios | Starring Junko Fuji

A rare and visually elegant STB-format (tatekan) Japanese poster for Onna no Doba (女の賭場), a 1966 Toei yakuza drama that marked an early and impactful entry in the female gambler genre, starring the radiant Junko Fuji before her iconic “Red Peony Gambler” fame.

This vertically elongated poster captures a perfect moment of composure and steel—Fuji kneels gracefully in a black kimono, a single flower card in hand, ready to upend the table with one silent move. The upper section sets the tension: a gambling den lined with men, tattooed gangsters, and steely-eyed rivals. The balance of poise and threat radiates off the paper, echoing the film’s central theme of strength through restraint.

Directed by Kosaku Yamashita, this film blends melodrama with stylized yakuza grit, positioning the female gambler not only as a disruptor in a man's world but as a symbol of deadly elegance and unshakable resolve.

A beautiful piece of mid-Showa-era cinema history, ideal for collectors of Japanese noir, ninkyo eiga, or fans of Toei’s legendary gambler heroines.

It is over 59 years old!
