“OZU Retrospective” (小津安二郎生誕90年フェア), Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1993, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O809

This is an original Japanese B2 poster produced in 1993 for an “OZU Retrospective” home-video campaign marking the “90th Anniversary of His Birth” (小津安二郎生誕90年フェア). It was issued for SHV (松竹ホームビデオ / Shochiku Home Video) as part of a nationwide video-release promotion.

The poster’s central tagline reads: 「時間を超え、今甦る！」 (“Transcending time—revived now!”). The left panel lists a wide selection of Ozu titles “now on sale” (好評発売中), including classics such as Late Spring (晩春), Early Summer (麦秋), Tokyo Story (東京物語), Equinox Flower (彼岸花), Good Morning (お早よう), and An Autumn Afternoon (秋刀魚の味), among many others.

A second section highlights new releases on November 21 (11月21日新発売), including:

Poster design
A beautifully restrained, graphic black-and-white portrait of Yasujirō Ozu at a movie camera dominates the right half, set against bold typography—OZU and 90th Anniversary of His Birth—with the Japanese campaign title rendered in bright, multi-colour lettering. The layout is quintessential early-1990s Japanese design: clean, high-contrast, and extremely display-friendly, especially once framed.
