"A Boy Named Charlie Brown - Snoopy & Charlie Version” (スヌーピーとチャーリー), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1972, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) ZA414
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed for the first release of A Boy Named Charlie Brown (スヌーピーとチャーリー) in 1972, directed by Bill Melendez and based on Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts comic strip. This design focuses on the friendship between Snoopy and Charlie Brown and was distributed domestically by Towa/Toho‑Towa.
Film background
The film follows Charlie Brown’s unlikely rise from perennial loser to spelling‑bee champion and his crushing defeat on the national stage, exploring how he copes with public failure and private disappointment. Throughout, Snoopy provides both comic relief and emotional counterpoint—from fantasy sequences on the ice to daydreams atop his doghouse—while familiar Peanuts characters offer their own mix of support and exasperation. The movie’s combination of jazz‑inflected music, introspective humour and honest portrayal of a child’s inner life has made it a long‑lived favourite.
Poster design
This B2 uses a clean white background with a single large green circle framing Snoopy in mirrored profile—two Snoopys back‑to‑back, arms folded and frowning thoughtfully—while tiny Charlie Brown stands between them at the bottom of the circle, alone on his mound. The English text “SNOOPY & CHARLIE” wraps around the circle in bold green letters, reinforcing the central relationship. Below, the Japanese logo 「スヌーピーとチャーリー」 appears in pink, accompanied by a small English subtitle “A boy named charlie brown,” and an image of Lucy, Charlie Brown and Linus grouped together in the lower right corner. Small yellow star emblems in the poster’s corners add a playful finishing touch. The result is a charming, graphic treatment ideal for display alongside other Peanuts posters.
