“A Thousand and One Nights” (千夜一夜物語), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1969, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P4

Sale price $135.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1969 for the first Japanese release of A Thousand and One Nights (千夜一夜物語), the first film in Mushi Production’s adult-oriented Animerama cycle, conceived by Osamu Tezuka and directed by Eiichi Yamamoto. The film opened in Japan on 14 June 1969 (roadshow).

A bold, experimental reimagining of Arabian Nights, the film was made with then-cutting-edge techniques (including ambitious compositing and wide-screen presentation) and features music by Isao Tomita, with voice cast including Yukio Aoshima, Kyoko Kishida, and Hiroshi Akutagawa.

Poster design
One of the most striking Japanese animation posters of the late 1960s: a dynamic, stylised flying figure dominates the white field, rendered in hot oranges and deep blacks, with a blazing eclipse-like sun and a dense miniature procession of fantastical characters running along the horizon. The ANIMERAMA mark is printed on the sheet, and the monumental title 千夜一夜物語 anchors the lower portion in bold, sculptural typography—an exceptionally displayable, museum-grade design.

It is over 56 years old!
