“Carrie” / 「キャリー」, Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1976, Brian De Palma / Sissy Spacek / Piper Laurie, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) E295

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for Carrie / 「キャリー」, Brian De Palma’s landmark 1976 supernatural horror film based on the novel by Stephen King.

This Japanese poster is especially striking for its severe, atmospheric design: a vast black ground, the burning prom-night stage, and a lonely silhouetted Carrie standing before the flames. It is one of the most memorable Japanese horror-poster designs of the 1970s.

Film background
Directed by Brian De Palma, Carrie stars Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, a bullied and isolated teenage girl whose repressed telekinetic powers erupt after a cruel humiliation at her high-school prom. The cast also includes Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, William Katt, Nancy Allen, and John Travolta.

The film became one of the defining American horror films of the 1970s and remains one of the most important early screen adaptations of Stephen King’s work. Spacek and Laurie both received Academy Award nominations for their performances, an unusual distinction for a horror film of the period.

Poster design
This Japanese B2 poster uses a dramatic, image-led composition. The lower half is dominated by the inferno of the Bates High School Senior Prom, with Carrie’s black silhouette standing before the wall of fire. Above the flames, a pale blue flame-like form rises into the darkness, giving the poster a ghostly, supernatural atmosphere.

At upper left, the Japanese title 「キャリー」 appears in large white brush-style lettering, with the English title CARRIE printed beside it in green. Beneath are the Japanese credits for Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, and Piper Laurie.

The vertical Japanese copy reads:

「キャリーをいじめないで!彼女が泣くと恐しいことが起こる……」
“Do not bully Carrie. When she cries, something terrifying happens…”

The design is restrained but extremely effective: blackness, fire, isolation, and threat, perfectly matched to the film’s tragic horror.
