“Crayon Shin-chan: Great Adventure in Henderland” (映画クレヨンしんちゃん ヘンダーランドの大冒険), Original First Release Japanese Movie Poster 1996, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA694
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1996 for the first release of Crayon Shin-chan: Great Adventure in Henderland (映画クレヨンしんちゃん ヘンダーランドの大冒険), the fourth feature film in the long-running and hugely beloved Crayon Shin-chan franchise.
Among collectors and fans of the series, Henderland is widely regarded as one of the strongest and most imaginative of all the Shin-chan films. It combines the anarchic humour and irreverence for which the series is famous with genuinely inventive fantasy world-building, flamboyant villains, and a memorable amusement-park setting. This original 1996 Japanese poster is especially appealing for its exuberant, character-packed design and vivid period colour.
Film background
Released in Japan in 1996, Crayon Shin-chan: Great Adventure in Henderland was directed and written by Mitsuru Hongo and based on the manga by Yoshito Usui.
The story follows five-year-old Shinnosuke “Shin-chan” Nohara during a kindergarten outing to Henderland, a strange amusement park that proves to be far more sinister than it first appears. Beneath its playful exterior lies a fantasy world threatened by bizarre and theatrical villains, including the memorable duo Macao and Joma. Armed with a magical deck of cards, Shin-chan must confront the forces at work within the park and rescue those around him.
The principal voice cast includes Akiko Yajima as Shin-chan, Miki Narahashi as Misae, Keiji Fujiwara as Hiroshi, and Satomi Koorogi as Himawari.
Over time, the film has earned a particularly strong reputation within the Shin-chan series, often singled out for its inventiveness, comic energy, surreal atmosphere, and highly distinctive supporting characters.
Poster design
The poster is a superb example of mid-1990s anime theatrical design: bright, busy, playful, and instantly eye-catching. At the centre is Shin-chan, floating forward with his signature wide-eyed expression, positioned above a large gateway marked “CLOSED.” Around him is a dense and exuberant collage of characters, attractions, and fantasy imagery drawn from the world of Henderland.
Prominently featured are the film’s villains and supporting characters, including the glamorous and outlandish Macao and Joma, along with other fantastical figures and amusement-park motifs. Ferris wheels, towers, playing-card references, and surreal carnival details fill the composition, giving the poster a sense of manic movement and visual abundance.
The right side carries the bold pink slogan:
「変だ?変だよヘンダーランドだゾ!」
roughly, “Weird? Of course it’s weird — it’s Henderland!”
On the left, a yellow speech bubble delivers a classic playful Shin-chan line:
「ウソだと思うならくれば〜」
“If you think I’m lying, just come and see~”
At the top, the large, colourful title typography announces the film in unmistakable Crayon Shin-chan style, while the overall design preserves the loose, energetic visual spirit associated with Yoshito Usui’s original character world.
