"Dawn of the Dead (ゾンビ)", Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1979, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O278
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1979 for George A. Romero’s landmark sequel Dawn of the Dead—released in Japan under the bold one-word title 「ゾンビ」 and presented by Dario Argento. For the international market, Argento created a faster, more propulsive cut and commissioned prog-rock band Goblin for the score, helping the film explode across Europe and Japan. Romero’s mall-siege satire became a pillar of modern horror, shaping the zombie genre’s look, rules, and social bite for decades.
Film background
Starring David Emge, Ken Foree, Scott H. Reiniger, and Gaylen Ross, the film pairs ferocious gore effects with dead-pan consumerist critique, escalating Romero’s Night of the Living Dead into grand, apocalyptic scale. The Japanese campaign (handled by Herald Films) leaned into Argento’s involvement and Goblin’s music, amplifying its cult appeal in Asia.
Poster design
A striking, minimalist one-sheet awash in blood-red with inky splatter textures. The massive brush-script title 「ゾンビ」 slashes across the lower field like a warning sign. Center left sits a gritty photo still of the mall horde—captioned “ZOMBIE – DAWN OF THE DEAD”—while the yellow midline tagline cautions:
「ひとり歩きは危険です」 — Walking alone is dangerous.
A compact credit block names Argento (製作/特殊効果), director ジョージ・A・ロメロ, and 音楽:ゴブリン, with cast listed beneath and the 映倫 mark and domestic distributor line along the foot.
