This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 2011 for the first theatrical release of From Up on Poppy Hill (コクリコ坂から), the Studio Ghibli coming-of-age drama directed by Gorō Miyazaki from a story/plan and screenplay by Hayao Miyazaki (with Keiko Niwa). Set in Yokohama, 1963, the film follows Umi and Shun as they rally classmates to save their school’s clubhouse while confronting a tangled family past.
Poster design
Umi and Shun share a protective embrace on the foggy waterfront, a red-and-white tugboat churning behind them—an image that captures the film’s tenderness and post-war nostalgia. The bold vertical red title 「コクリコ坂から」 runs down the left, while the right-side tagline reads 「海、大きくなったなあ。」 (“Umi, you’ve grown.”).
