"Ghost in the Shell" (攻殻機動隊), Original Japanese Promotional Kodansha Poster 1995, Ultra Rare, B2 Size (73 × 51 cm) P292

Sale price $725.00

This is an original Japanese promotional poster printed in 1995 for Mamoru Oshii’s cyber-punk landmark Ghost in the Shell (攻殻機動隊), based on Masamune Shirow’s manga and animated by Production I.G. A defining work of late-20th-century science fiction, the film’s meditations on identity, technology, and embodiment profoundly influenced global cinema. This scarce horizontal promotional variant carries the period copyright line ©1995 SHIROW MASAMUNE/KODANSHA·BANDAI VISUAL·MANGA ENTERTAINMENT, together with the boxed “500” mark, print code “1195G,” and MOVIC logo—clear indicators of an authentic 1995 Japanese issue.

Why this example is extraordinary (rarity & market)
Authentic 1995 Japanese Ghost in the Shell promotional posters surface only intermittently and attract strong international demand from anime, cyber-punk, and graphic design collectors. This Kodansha / MOVIC landscape variant is especially elusive, markedly scarcer than the standard theatrical designs and very seldom found in such high grade. It is also the first time we have had this poster in our gallery.

Poster design
A superb, circuitry-framed composition that perfectly captures the film’s techno-noir atmosphere. The upper left is anchored by the classic GHOST IN THE SHELL / 攻殻機動隊 logotype beneath the line: “People love machines in 2029 A.D.” followed by the haunting question, “Who are you? Who slips into my robot body and whispers to my ghost?” The central image shows Major Motoko Kusanagi crouched with weapon drawn in a shadowed urban canyon, while five inset scenes run across the lower portion of the design, including action imagery, combat stills, the iconic cybernetic “birth” visual, and the underwater portrait. Along the bottom, the world-building text reads: “It is the year 2029. The corporate network covers the sky. Though electronic data span the globe in pulses of light, information runs so scarce that nations and peoples are barely extant. Welcome to the near future.” A striking and highly displayable 1990s anime design.
