“Ghost in the Shell” (攻殻機動隊), Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1996, Kodansha Video/Bandai Visual In-Store Campaign, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O104
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1996 for the domestic in-store promotional campaign of Ghost in the Shell, issued by Kodansha Video and Bandai Visual/Emotion (with Manga Entertainment credit). Timed to the 25 July 1996 home-video rollout in Japan (“1996 7.25 IN STORE”), the sheet advertises the simultaneous releases—including VHS editions and a premium LaserDisc box—making it scarcer than standard theatrical materials and highly collectible.
Film background
Mamoru Oshii’s 1995 cyber-punk landmark adapts Masamune Shirow’s manga into a philosophical techno-thriller about identity and consciousness in a networked future. Key staff include screenwriter Kazunori Itō, character design/animation by Hiroyuki Okiura (with Kazuchika Kise), art direction by Hiromasa Ogura, music by Kenji Kawai, and production by Production I.G. The film became a cornerstone of 1990s anime with major global influence.
Poster design
A vivid Shirow Masamune illustration dominates: Motoko Kusanagi stands armed against a crystalline cityscape while cables and data tendrils merge with her body. The bold red English logotype “GHOST IN THE SHELL” sits across the upper field, with the Japanese title 「攻殻機動隊」 and a black release panel at right (“1996 7.25 IN STORE / 3タイトル同時発売”). Staff and format notes run down the right edge; Kodansha Video and Emotion marks anchor the footer. Striking colour, dense detailing, and strong wall presence.
