"Haru (ハル)", Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1996, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O261

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1996 for Yoshimitsu Morita’s prescient internet-age romance Haru. Starring Eri Fukatsu and Seiyō (Masaaki) Uchino, the film follows two strangers who meet on a movie forum and fall in love through e-mail—years before online romance became a mainstream movie trope. Fukatsu won Best Actress and Morita won Best Screenplay at the 18th Yokohama Film Festival, and the film remains a key ‘90s snapshot of digital connection in Japan.

Film background
Written and directed by Morita, Haru blends on-screen text, location shooting, and understated performances to chart a shy, modern courtship between “Haru” (a Tokyo salaryman) and “Hoshi” (a woman in Morioka). Its early depiction of chatrooms and email anticipates later titles like You’ve Got Mail and has been noted in retrospectives as a tender, forward-looking romance.

Poster design
A refined, minimalist composition dominated by a close, contemplative portrait of Eri Fukatsu spans the upper field. Across the image, massive vermilion kana characters spell the title 「ハル」, their rounded strokes echoing a shy smile. At left, the vertical tagline reads:
「まだ見ぬあなたに、恋してる。」— I’m in love with someone I haven’t met yet.
A clean white lower band carries the Japanese credit block (cast list headed by 深津絵里 and 内野聖陽) and the TOHO release line, underscoring the film’s elegant, contemporary branding.
