"Godzilla vs. the Thing", Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1964, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O294
**Compared to even 5 years ago - an original of this poster in SUPERB condition is getting harder and harder to find!**
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1964 for Ishirō Honda’s Mothra vs. Godzilla—exported in the West as Godzilla vs. the Thing. A peak Shōwa-era entry, it unites Honda’s direction, Eiji Tsuburaya’s groundbreaking tokusatsu effects, and Akira Ifukube’s thunderous score. Starring Akira Takarada, Yuriko Hoshi, Hiroshi Koizumi, and the singing duo The Peanuts (as the Shobijin), the film is a fan-favorite that helped cement Mothra as Godzilla’s noblest rival and ally.
Film background
Typhoon-tossed eggs, corporate greed, and divine retribution frame one of the series’ cleanest man-vs-monster parables. The picture’s miniature work (industrial shorelines, storm surge, cocooning set-piece) and careful suit acting rank among Tsuburaya’s finest, making 1964 a banner year for Toho kaijū cinema.
Poster design
A dynamic photo-montage built around a full-wing Mothra vs. Godzilla clash: Mothra’s compound eyes and fur fill the upper field while Godzilla counters with an atomic blast. A festive neon-pink musical staff borders the sheet—an allusion to the Shobijin’s summoning song—while the huge scarlet title 「モスラ対ゴジラ」 is slashed across the center with the yellow 対 tile. At lower left, the export caption “GODZILLA AGAINST MOTHRA” appears; the Toho roundel sits at the upper right. Credits list Honda (監督), Tsuburaya (特技監督), and principal cast; footer line reads © 1964 TOHO CO., LTD. / Printed in Japan. The upper left bears 総天然色 (Eastmancolor).
Condition
Excellent overall with honest theatrical handling: only tiny short tears at the top border (additional imagery provided). Colors remain strong with crisp detail. Please review the photos; they show the exact poster for sale.
