"Harakiri" (Seppuku - 切腹), Original Release Poster Pamphlet 1962, Rare, B4 Size (26 x 36 cm) O566

Sale price $250.00

Rare Original Japanese poster pamphlet for "Harakiri (切腹)" (1962)
Size: approx. B4 (26 x 36 cm)

This large-format, two-sided theatrical pamphlet was issued in Japan for Masaki Kobayashi’s legendary 1962 film Harakiri. The front cover functions as a mini poster in its own right: a powerful monochrome portrait of Tatsuya Nakadai as the rōnin Hanshirō Tsugumo, sword raised across his chest against a windswept field, with bold 切腹 calligraphy and classic Shochiku studio crest. Framed, it becomes a formidable display piece that captures the raw intensity of the film.

Key Features:
• Original 1962-release Japanese poster pamphlet – not a reprint or reproduction.
• Very good vintage condition for its age (see photos for details).
• Striking cover design dominated by Nakadai in full samurai stance, dynamic sword diagonals and strong period typography – ideal for wall display.
• Reverse side packed with production stills, detailed notes and cast/crew profiles (all text in Japanese), making it both a visual showpiece and a rich historical document.
• Larger B4-style format gives greater presence than standard Japanese flyers, perfect for framing.
• Printed by Shochiku, the film’s original distributor.

About the Film:
Directed by Masaki Kobayashi, Harakiri is a masterwork of jidaigeki (period drama) cinema. Set during the Tokugawa shogunate between 1619 and 1630, it follows the gripping tale of rōnin Hanshirō Tsugumo, who appears at a feudal lord’s estate to request the right to commit seppuku. What unfolds is a devastating indictment of empty samurai “honor” and the cruelty of rigid social systems. Revered for its stark cinematography, bold narrative structure and philosophical depth, Harakiri remains one of the most critically acclaimed Japanese films ever made.

It is over 63 years old!
