“Heat” / 「ヒート」, Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1995, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) F270
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the first Japanese release campaign of Heat / 「ヒート」, Michael Mann’s modern crime masterpiece starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
A superb Japan-market poster for one of the defining crime films of the 1990s, this design is elegant, restrained, and built almost entirely around tension, star power, and the fatal symmetry between cop and criminal.
Film background
Released in 1995, Heat is set in Los Angeles and follows the collision between two obsessive professionals: Neil McCauley, a disciplined master thief, and Vincent Hanna, the relentless LAPD detective pursuing him. Their lives mirror one another in discipline, loneliness, and compulsion, even as they stand on opposite sides of the law.
Directed and written by Michael Mann, the film stars Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Jon Voight, Ashley Judd, Diane Venora, and Amy Brenneman. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest crime films ever made, particularly admired for its atmosphere, precision, ensemble performances, and the legendary downtown Los Angeles shootout sequence.
Poster design
The Japanese poster is sleek, dark, and highly effective. On the left, Robert De Niro appears in sunglasses, aiming a handgun from the shadows. On the right, Al Pacino is shown in warm noir lighting, his expression tense and watchful. The two portraits create a powerful visual opposition: criminal and detective, silence and pursuit, discipline and obsession.
The vertical Japanese copy between them reads:
「叫ぶか、黙るか。二人は出会った。いま高鳴る銃撃のシンフォニー!」
“Shout, or stay silent. The two have met. Now begins a roaring symphony of gunfire!”
The centre is anchored by the elegant gold English title HEAT, with the bold red katakana title 「ヒート」 directly beneath. A small still of the crew walking in formation appears below the title, reinforcing the film’s cool professionalism and ensemble-crime structure.
The design is minimal, serious, and highly displayable — a refined Japanese release poster for a major 1990s crime classic.
