“Jaws 3-D” / “Jaws 3” (ジョーズ3), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1983, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) A287
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1983 for the first Japanese release of Jaws 3-D, released in Japan as ジョーズ3. Produced by Universal and directed by Joe Alves, the film stars Dennis Quaid, Bess Armstrong, Simon MacCorkindale, and Louis Gossett Jr.
A memorable early-1980s creature-feature sequel, Jaws 3-D was marketed heavily around its 3-D presentation, promising audiences a shark attack spectacle that would appear to burst out of the screen and into the cinema itself.
Film background
Released in 1983, Jaws 3-D takes the terror of the Jaws series into a new setting: a marine theme park, where a great white shark infiltrates the enclosed attraction and turns a public spectacle into a disaster.
The film belongs to the high-concept 1980s cycle of 3-D revival cinema, where horror, action, and spectacle were designed to exploit the format’s sense of direct audience attack. This Japanese campaign leans fully into that idea, selling the film as an immersive theatrical shock experience.
Poster design
This Japanese B2 is a superbly energetic 3-D horror-action design. The central image shows a massive great white shark surging upward and forward through the water, its jaws open and teeth exposed, with water cascading from its body in a dramatic burst of motion.
The composition is designed to simulate a three-dimensional attack: the shark appears to break through the image plane, while swimmers and theme-park visitors recoil in panic below. On the left, terrified people struggle in the water; on the right, a crowd of park guests screams and points as the shark bears down toward them.
The top red headline reads:
「スクリーンを突き破る——驚愕のジョーズ・パニック!!」
“Breaking through the screen — an astonishing Jaws panic!!”
The black copy at upper left reads:
「もう逃げられない——恐怖と興奮が《客席》に突進する!」
“There is no escape now — terror and excitement rush straight into the audience seats!”
At upper right, the bold 3-D / JAWS 3 emblem reinforces the film’s main selling point, accompanied by Dolby Stereo and colour-film markings. At the bottom, the large red Japanese title ジョーズ3 anchors the poster, with the yellow text 超立体映画 declaring it a “super three-dimensional movie.”
The overall effect is pure early-1980s genre spectacle: bold, theatrical, aggressive, and highly displayable.
