This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 2005 for the first Japanese release of Linda Linda Linda (リンダ リンダ リンダ), the beloved Japanese youth music film directed by Nobuhiro Yamashita (山下敦弘).
Set around a high school cultural festival, the story follows four girls who scramble to form a band and perform—ending up playing songs by The Blue Hearts (ザ・ブルーハーツ), one of Japan’s most iconic punk/rock bands. The poster’s copy leans into that premise: 「女子高生がブルーハーツ。」 (“High school girls do The Blue Hearts.”) and the playful hook 「ボーカルは韓国からの留学生!?」 (“The vocalist is an exchange student from Korea!?”). The right-side tagline reads: 「高校生活最後の文化祭—。ただ、何かを刻みつけたかった。」 (“The last school festival of high school life… they just wanted to leave something behind.”)
Poster design
A clean, modern, and instantly recognisable design: four schoolgirls stand against an open sky, holding their instruments, while the bold hot-pink title リンダ リンダ リンダ cascades diagonally across the upper left. Minimal, photographic, and perfectly balanced—this is one of the most iconic Japanese poster designs of the 2000s indie cinema wave, and it frames beautifully.
It is over 20 years old!
