Sale price $125.00

This is an original Japanese B3 nakazuri (train-hanger) movie poster printed in 1985 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Lupin the Third: The Legend of the Gold of Babylon (ルパン三世 バビロンの黄金伝説), the third theatrical feature in Monkey Punch’s legendary Lupin III franchise. Featuring Lupin, Fujiko, and the wider cast of familiar characters in one of the series’ most colourful 1980s big-screen outings, this is a scarce and highly displayable surviving example of Japanese transport advertising ephemera.

Film background
Released in 1985, The Legend of the Gold of Babylon takes Lupin and his gang into a fast-moving treasure hunt built around the myth of Babylonian gold, combining globe-trotting adventure, slapstick humour, chase sequences, and the unmistakable visual energy that made the franchise one of Japan’s most enduring animated properties. By the mid-1980s, Lupin III had already become an institution, and theatrical material from this period captures the series at its most vibrant, commercial, and instantly recognisable.

Poster design
A superb and unmistakably 1980s Japanese anime design, this B3 nakazuri uses bold commuter-friendly graphics to maximum effect. The centre is dominated by a full-length image of Lupin and Fujiko, posed with effortless swagger against a vivid blue ground, while the surrounding panels showcase action scenes, explosions, comic set-pieces, and international intrigue. Across the top, the large LUPIN the 3rd masthead gives the sheet immediate visual punch, while the huge red-and-yellow Japanese title slants dynamically across the lower half. Particularly appealing is the dramatic right-hand red vertical strip, announcing the July 13 opening and advance ticket sale details—an element that gives the poster strong period authenticity and reinforces its original nakazuri / transport advertising purpose. Compared with standard theatrical formats, surviving nakazuri posters are often much harder to find, as they were designed for short-term public display and discard.
