“Midnight Cowboy”, Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1969, Very Rare, STB Tatekan Size (approx. 51 × 146 cm) E77
This is an original Japanese STB (Standing Board / Tatekan) poster printed in 1969 for the first Japanese release of Midnight Cowboy. Directed by John Schlesinger and starring Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman, the film became the only X-rated title to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, also taking Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay (Waldo Salt), with acting nominations for Voight, Hoffman, and Sylvia Miles. The soundtrack features Harry Nilsson’s “Everybody’s Talkin’.”
Poster design
A powerful two-panel composition: Voight’s Joe Buck in fringed jacket and Hoffman’s Ratso Rizzo lean in a gritty New York doorway, with a lower vignette of the pair in the subway. The bold bilingual layout combines the English title “MIDNIGHT COWBOY” with the Japanese 「真夜中のカーボーイ」, plus United Artists credits and period billing—an evocative snapshot of late-1960s urban realism.
